Ok after looking for a long long time, I got one and Im so happy to own one. It has PROBLEMS though. First off when I try to turn the engine off it keeps going, even if I take the key, I am stalling it to stop it, any idea's what this could be. It has its nice share of rust to, under the front window, near the back arch, on the boot. How would I go about getting this sorted to? Also the throttle cable has snapped off the accelerator, are these expensive? Are there any websites people on here use to find things for renault 5's? A fair few of the electrics dont work in the car either. Which problems should I fix first? So much to do, but I have plenty of time to put into it.

Thanks

dose it run ok when you rev it up ? if so you might want to get some new fuel in and clean the carb out. hope this helps!

Dont forget your engine is not brand new so when she is cold it will be lumpy, mine is the same as yours, after a minute or so mine ticks over sweet.

The reason i replied with what i did is some times the idel jet blocks up if you have ran old fuel from the reserve tank, and then it will rum lumpy on tick over but will rev through.

If its sat around for a while then you want to stick some good fuel in.

On the side of the carb (drivers side) there is a big brass screw about half way down. take that out and give it a blow through and make sure its not blocked.

Owdo mate, It's reassuring to hear someone who is having problems still "in love" with their car.........
I lost the plot completely when I got mine some two months ago......thing is, I didn't know anything about them, still don't....but that's where this site comes in....the help, advice and knowledge that these guys (and gals) have in unbelievable.
Mine ran on when I got it........that was because in a fit of rage I drove the poor bugger 17 miles after the head gasket had blown!...........so, well..........it got "a bit hot!".............
Since then, its been in my mates garage and has had a replacement engine fitted, and it's running!!!!!!!!.........still not been able to drive it on the road yet though.
My mates a Ford man, and the cussing he's done while we've been under/on/in my car this last four or so weeks has been hilarious.......for me!

His favourite comment is along the lines of "you bought a 20 year old car and there's something wrong with it??????????........fancy that!".........he makes no secret of the fact that he doesn't like GTT's......but I look at it, even though it's crippled, and still think it looks ace.......I wouldn't say I loved it, but it stirs something inside me, and there's not much that does that to me any more, so good on yer for being enthusiastic and keen mate, sure you'll get there and have yourself a nice little car.............eventually!

So, continuing on from your previous thread, how much did the car set you back and how much is the insruance going to be?

Erm. I was talking to Ish, hence why I quoted his post, to make it obvious.

Good luck on tidying your motor up in any case Red.
