what spam ? links ?

the decision to allow non members to post in general chat was a considered one, by the whole committee, and so not something that should be just removed instantantly without consideration.

I did a search for his/her/its posts once I realised what you were on about jrp. I deleted them all and banned the user that created them. the anti-spam filter I wrote into the registration pages has worked well since the issues we had last year, I've added the new details to it.

If anyone spots anymore spam, please let me know.

deleted - they were other "people" who had slipped in with the same registration details before I had chance to add it to the filter. I've just deleted around 100 accounts, most of which were from last years attack, accounts that had not been used to post anything yet but were available for use. not any more.

I think that every now and again some sad sack sits down and works out how to register to our site, the details of which get bundled into a script used by spammers. each time they write a new script I have to write something into the filter to stop that script from working. That's 3 in total I've resolved in the year or so this site has been live. I bet we've had literally 1000's of registration attempts, the filter will have kicked out 99% of them.
