I have just had my engine rebuilt and only done 100 miles of steady miles. Decided to check the oil and found a mayo like mixture on the filla cap. Its not smoking and runs like a dream. havnt changed the oil yet either. As i understand this normally means the haed gasket has gone, is there any other explanation for this happening? thanks :)

You didnt say why the engine was rebuilt in the first place. If it was because of head gasket failure it might just be that the rad and pipes etc were not flushed out properly and you still have some water and oil mix left in the system, they may have even forgot to clean the cap off (it could be that simple). If it was me I would flush the cooling system and change the oil just for my own peice of mind then keep an eye on it. :)

Sounds like a plan matey. ill change the oil and see if im still getting the nasty mayo! would the water in the header have an oily residue in if the head had gone? The bottom end was v rattlty so i had John Metz rebuild the engine. thanks for the help :)
