Best place to wire up a volt gauge? Could this be wired straight to the battery? :)
good question, id imagined it would go to altanator.
Straight to battery would show the battery voltage+charging Volts from the Alternator and you would prob get the same reading off the alternator too as it would back feed from the battery to it

If I wired it to the battery would this gradually drain the battery if I didn't use the car for say a month?
no mate it would use mV.....
you could always put a multimeter on it before and after installtion to see what if any volts it was using....
is a digi one or anolouge?
You would only want it on an ignition live feed so direct to battery is pretty pointless unless you want to watch you battery volts go down whilst the gauge is plumbed in draining it.

James says it would drain the battery.....
It is a anolouge gauge.
Digi would drain
analogue wouldn't..... (its mV)

MilliVolt, this will still drain from the battery. Put an inline switch, so you can switch it off. Or as James mentioned use and ignition live. There will be a voltage drop from the alternator to the battery and ignition live, but most in car volt gauges will not show this.
Ian is confusing milli volts with milli amps.
