hi bit of a random thread but hope someone can five me some advice. this year i totally rebuilt my r5 gt. i had new inner and outer cills fitted and a full respray in the original black noir costing 2500 the car was rubbed down to virtually bare metal and the finish was like glass. i used all new panels wings bumpers skirts and arches. however the car has been stuck in my garage for 6 months now sometimes with the door open when family members so annoyingly leave it open. the body would get dusty and i would rinse it down with a hose weekly but never really leatherd it off. now the top half of the car feels gritty i have tried all sorts to get it off i have used a few different car shampoos then leatherd and polished it using autosmart pink polish and the white one. i have also used autosmart tfr film remover then leatherd and polished. whatever i try after its been polished and waxd it still feels like it has a gritty film. has anyone any idea what it could be or what could get it back smooth. could it be dust has bit into the new paint?cut it be tree sap? is it safe to use tcut on new black paint?could it need cut and polishing again with compound? heard some cars that are repainted need cut and polishing twice after a few week. would apreciate any help because its really annoying to see my pride and joy gritty lol
yooooooooooooooooo.
get a clay bar matey, wash the car and follow instructions on it. then use a good polish and wax.
maybe invest in a polisher the halfords one is a good deal, but dont press hard just lightly!!!!
try that mate :)

thanks mate will look into that never heard of a clay bar
yep, clay bar all the way.... Meguiars do it with some banana scented lube spray.
whats claybar actually do.?
Clay bar FTW, just use lots of lube, like when your doing ya misses up the arse:laugh:
For you I would use the mequires kit for beginers it's soft and easy to use u get the kit with clay and lube ,go on polished bliss .co.uk I get mine from there .clay removes or pulls out the grime or suface dirt which sit on the top of you paint .there is also grime and dirt in the paint which it also removes which the human eye cnt see ,do not use a polisher as u mite get swirls I would pay some1 to do that ,polishbliss.co.uk all info is on that site ,also use a good shampoo like poorboys it's not aggesive like the stuff u get from Halfords

hi thanks for all your comments.s far i have ued autosmart tfr and then polished with the pink and white polish then used the black tcut and then autosmart r2 which has seemed to get most of the grit or whatever it is off the paint. then i have waxed it with rude wax which is a canauba naural wax . when you apply the wax you can still see tiny particles on the body work but when you polish it ff you can hardly see or feel them. i havnt used the clay bar im ging to get one at the weekend. is there any way you can get the tiny scratcheswhich you can see in the light out of a black car which is caused by polishing washin etc or am i just going to haveto live with it lol.its a brandnew respray and want to keep it imaculate.would apreciate any comments thanks
brand new spray job. Is the gritty pain mainly on the roof or upward facing pannels?
if so this is from the spray shop id imagine, maybe pop it back and ask them to mop over the car and then properly wax it, then it should be ok

clay ftw
i use sonus green clay bar, and meguiars last touch diluted heavily with water, and just use loads of it as lube and slide the clay over the paintwork picking up the grit
i get my bits from
cleanyourcar.com

I've never heard of that one before. Make sure you get yourself a decent lube, as water can be a bit "sticky", and is not recommended unless you've perfected your technique.
The first time I used clay, I was gob-smacked! If you're going to do it though, do it properly and take your time to get the best results. Not to mention, find some decent products! When I do a proper clean, I rinse, wash, rinse, dry, clay, wash, rinse, dry, polish, wax, wax, wax.
Here's a couple of pics of my old 5 after I'd given it a good going over:

I don't think that's too bad, seeing as it's the original paint (excluding bumper/grille). The car was always kept outside, with no cover, in the ten years that I had it. It's just a shame I neglected it over the last 18 months odd :ashamed:
any recomendations on what lube to use with a claybar.? will any lube do the trick as long as its specificly for claybar?
imo i would never use water as lube , blit should of supplied you with lube , i use poorboys spray and wipe , but use good shampoo, not argessive stuff, as well like i said before go on here http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/car-care-products-clean.html mequires is the best for first timers ,they are very helpful then as u get better buy better clean sonus is also a big fav:)

I use that stuff, you only have to use water as a lube, I wash mine and rinse it off but before a shamey I give it a going over with that clay, I just have an old spray bottle with water in it to help keep things moving

for lube i use meguairs last touch heavily watered down then use as much as you like.

And keep it in a spray bottle in the boot, any horrid bugsplats can be wiped away when you see them before they bake on.

ok seen as you are using the bilt hamber autoclay i have purchased i'll go with your response:agree: bilt hamber also state to use water! im assuming the autoclay has a built in type lube so to speak?
now its which wax to go for after claying the car:scratch:
I would still use a little shampoo to give it that little extra lubrication. The paintwork will always need a polish and then to be sealed after claying. I normally use a d/a polisher with final finish (unless its needs more correction) and then wax.
BTW, Do Not use Tcut on your paintwork and expect it to be nice and swirl free, it's not a polish and does not break down in the same way.

Don't forget to polish/cleanse before you wax. I've just bought some "Dodo juice Lime Prime" for the Evo, which is very highly rated. I used to use P21S (now re-branded as R222) paint cleanser, which is very good, but very gentle. If you've got quite a bit of paint damage you might want something a bit harder.
As for wax, I use P21S concourse look carnauba wax. It's the Mac-Daddy of waxes imo, and it's what a lot of concourse competitors use (although they won't admit it). It's a very good price, produces a cracking shine, and is p155-easy to use!
