Went to view this Volvo last night, absolutely amazing car! Fully loaded and respectably quick, very clean bodywork and interior well looked after.

Cruise Control
Climate Control
Air Con
Heated Front Seats
Electric Front seats with 3 memory settings
Half Leather and Alacantra seats
LSD as standard
Polybush top engine mount
HID conversion headlights
141K service book stamped to 128k then serviced by independant Volvo specialists

Definitely getting it remapped then it'll run about 300bhp, picking it up Thursday after work, can't wait!! Clio is now for sale and in the For Sale thread

Nice. Is the 850R AWD or FWD?

Ricardo

I know a good company re-mapping these for £150.

They specialise in the volvo. They are in Bromsgrove, I think they called Hamish Lyndsey Motorsport.

Good bunch of peeps. :agree:

Yep, the chap i'm buying the car off also mentioned Hamish as he's on the Volvo owners club forums. I found the HLT website earlier :agree:

The 20 valve 5 cylinder noise sounds awesome

Not as nice as my new car, but not bad. An old man's motor, for an old man. Does it smell of stale urine? :cooter:

I thought that when i first saw the pics as it's the same shape as the lambo shticker. It says Volvo on the top of it and a moose or elk or something else. It's what they have as a symbol in Sweden, similar to the Spanish cars that have a cow.... or something as a shticker on the back of their cars :)

Glad you took my advice mate :D No plug for me though :disagree: ;)

Although they do an AWD version of it, they are more rare, more expensive and almost always auto (I think). They even did a twin exit exhaust version one year.

Think yours should have traction control btw.

Great cars, my mate has had a couple. I know the 5cyl noise you're talking about. :)

Hope it goes well mate.

Many thanks Trev :agree: :D

Yes it does have traction control which can be turned off, the chap im buying it off has a Volvo 850 T-5 chipped and says that without the LSD which the 850R has it's a bit of a handful at 300bhp :D

Almost bought one of these bad boys myself.
Really easy to get up to 300bhp as you say & are pretty bulletproof from what I read.

This 1 was on Pistonheads, my criterior was to fnd an estate, something with a bit of poke. The other alf's old man mentioned buying a Mondeo or Focus but that's not quite me :wasntme:

I did see a nice looking Saab 9-5 Aero Hot estate, 2.3L turbo 230bhp estate, per chance i took a call last weekend from the Volvo owner saying it was still for sale..... End of, i knew i had to go look at it.... And buy it

Update:

Owned since Thursday and since then we've put some miles on her travelling up to Birmingham last night to see The Script. Anway, while we were up there we decided to head down to Bromsgrove on the way home to pop into HLM Tuning as they do the ECU upgrades on a few TD and turbo Volvo models.

Right, well when i bought the car it had a (Hate saying it) Spec R Bleed Valve, i really didn't like the idea of having it on there and with this i couldn't tell unless running an aftermarket boost gauge whether it was running stock boost or adjusted to run more :ashamed: :sad2: I don't know anything about what boost they run etc so it was good to be at HLM as they have an RR setup.

So, the original idea was to swap the stock ECU for a upgraded ECU, the RR would give me a before and after to show the extra bhp and torque. It turned out that the Bleed valve was in place, someone had buggered about with the Boost Control Solenoid and messed about with the actuator etc, FAIL. I asked him (politely:D) if he could take the bleed valve off and to return it to the stock setup to which we gained 20bhp :cool:

With the ECU upgrade it still wasn't showing it running more boost so it had to be upped via the actuator, apparently there was not much or no tension and took a bit of adjusting to get it sorted. Once adjusted he ran it up again and hey presto, 280BHP and 300ft/lbs torque at 1.3bar

Talk about big difference in the drive on the way back home from Bromsgrove to home :)

Before figures were approx 230bhp and the same torque, we weren't even gonna have the work done just pop our head in on the way home to see how it all works and see the facilities :D

So, new Boost Control Solenoid, remove Bleed Valve, Adjust Actuator and Upgraded ECU, done

The springs are pretty weak in the Volvo actuators, hence the mass adjustment, much like most cars nowadays as they all run off solenoids.

This going to be the next track car then, Ric?:D

Deffo Solenoid, it cost me £65! :D

Someone had blocked 1 of the ports off with a screw and rigged up the bleed valve, i assume to bypass the solenoid in some way and to use the valve to adjust the boost. Either way it didn't work, bhp was down maybe because they slackened off the actuator, i don't know the ins and outs but losing the valve, fitting new vacuum hose, then upping the boost to 1.3 bar we then reached the end figure with the upgraded ECU.

Apparently stock boost is 0.8bar

Adam L

I'm not sure why you'd try to block off a solenoid and then run a bleed valve in line with it, that's pretty stupid.

At least it's all sorted now:)

Haven't gotta clue but yes, all sorted thank god. No Renault 5 for ages but the dastardly bleed vave still showing it's face under the bonnet! :brickwall:
