I am in a bit of a situation at the moment. Got the new 5 which is good everywhere else except the suspension as I am using 50mm apex springs with standard shocks front and rear.

I am wanting to upgrade the suspension but without going fully coilovers as the car will not be used on track as its my daily drive but then I still want a bit of comfort and to up the handling a bit more.

What kits would people recommend or what do you have that you rate? I have gaz suspension main dealer and warehouse 20 mins from me but unsure if they only do coilover kits but I might aswell pop down there to have a look;)

If your not sure on the coil overs why not go for the koni kit that the cup cars came equipped with?

i have the k-tec ultimate coilovers on mine...... handles really well but if you go over an ant you will feel it. just try to avoid ants stones and fag buts :cooter: haha nahh they ent that bad but they r pretty stiff. :agree:

I like my Spax RSX coilovers the are pretty good and the car handles fecking awesome, alot better than my previous AVO which i do not rate and the Avo's rust so quick. But if I didn't have the coilovers I would be looking into the Koni setup:cooter:

the koni kits that I have found are around 400ish and I don`t really want to spend that much on it:sad2:

The cup cars came with super stiff De-Carbon's, which they had to use in the Renault Cup series. Some of the cars (the ones that went on to compete in the Coupe Cup and Super Coupe Cup) were later fitted with Koni's, to give a bit of adjustability. However, rumour has it they're valved differently to the kit that Koni sells to Joe Public.

I'd vote for Koni all day long :agree:

Koni gets my vote too, i have it fitted on my Clio, never had an problems with it. I've heard Spax can be a bit harsh on the ride

I have seen that koni do some kits for around the 250 mark, I don`t mind paying that but they dont seem to be about for the 5. Think i will spend the best part of my monday ringing round whilst at work!

Go for the koni yellows, You wont look back. The gaz/avo coilovers are notorious for failing after a handful of miles.

they konis I found only go down to a 35mm drop and I have a 50mm drop on there already and I think the ride height is nice so would like to keep this if i could

well ive just recently refitted my koni yellows with apex 50mm springs, i dont think they'll bottom out! there still seems enough travel for the shock shaft, if anything id just tweek the adjustent to a little more stiff.

you wont get gaz ones new for less than 400, and they are a bit too stiff for the road, even on softest setting, think its probably due to the springs

Mark did you see the post above about the price? Been offered them the gaz at 320 from the person who I bought my other gaz ones from for the clio. Gaz wanted 416+vat for them!

Raj I was told not to use 50mm springs with the koni shocks as I asked this question and the reply from potn tech team:

"the dampers could possibly knock the spring out of the base plate, this is because the dampers are standard length and unfortunately no shortened ones are available for this vehicle"
