:agree:, did you get all your bits sorted for this in the end? What have you decided on?

I still got covered in sh!t whenever I touched something underneath. :D

Would have liked to have left it, but I think the bottom-end needed doing, aswell as the gearbox, anyway. :(

Hopefully get the engine stripped this weekend.

Hi mate, wasn't sure if you were asking me or not, but I'm kinda swaying towards going with the K-Tec forged pistons on o.e con rods. The reason being is because there's someone at the other end of the phone who can put me in the right direction in terms of floating pins etc.

Going to be sending the crank away to be balanced, will more than likely leave the head alone. New liners, shells, etc, then put it all back together. Will look into getting the gearbox overhauled as it was whining pretty badly last time it ran.

Oww, planning on selling the group A carb providing I can find someone on here who's up for drilling/tuning a standard one.

You need to get the rods sleeved for Forged pistons, and luckily I have a set of 4 ready to go:D.

Well, the engine hasn't made any progress, but I managed to get the garage in order, ready for the rebuild.

Cleared out a load of crap and made a new bench.

Next: get a vice, fit a couple of shelves, then crack on with stripping the engine.

feels good to have a nice bit of space cleared, also building your own bench is the way forward mine is the lick, and a good height for a bad back. crack on you slow coach... should be done by now

Big Supes

Yeah, you know that, Jerpa (right height for back). :):agree: There's no way I was going to work on another engine on my Mom's old patio table. :wasntme:

Well, picked up new exhaust system on Saturday.... then was kinda tied into taking the bird out for the day after. Built the bench sat night, cleared the garage out today, should be able to make a start on the engine sometime this week/next weekend.

This will be the first time I won't be rushing my own project. The days of working on cars every evening and weekends are long gone.

Head off:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d70/wadeuss/DSC00061.jpg

Looks like things have been getting a little toasty in the middle. Any ideas as to why the exhaust valves would get so hot on 2 and 3?

Also, does anyone think it would be worth replacing these valves? Don't want to go chipping one. :sad2:

Going to get the crank out during the week and get it sent away to be balanced.

that has ran rich whilst cruising most likely, those exhaust valves maybe getting hot from being lean or having detonated some on boost, or hot for some other reason. are those water ways blocked ? they look like they are full of corroded crap.

Yeah, not sure why..... the ports where still nice and shiny... I'll get some more pics up.

I know it never suffered from det, but I do think you're right about it running rich....

Also, it ran with a fooked tubby which used to leak oil into the inlet for quite a bit.

Going to be removing the piston liners tomorrow... just a quick question... are the liners wet or dry?

So the crank and liners came out today.

Looks like it was a good idea I decided to overhaul the bottom-end before getting the car back on the road.....

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d70/wadeuss/friedshells.jpghttp://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d70/wadeuss/badcrank.jpg

:(

Number 4 little-end was starting to pick up pretty badly so it looks like I'm gona be in the game for a new crank.

Still waiting on some money owed to me (:brickwall:) so until the pistons arrive, I decided to clean up the block and give it a spray...

Big Supes

Tell me about it Os....

Looks like it was seriously picking up and about to feck itself. As all four little ends have pretty much started to pick up, I'm guessing there's been some oil starvation at some point.

:(

Update: new crank (that has been lightened to balance) fitted.

Just a quick question.... I have around 15 gasket things supplied in a bottom-end fitting kit that I have no clue as to what they are. They're about the diameter of a oil filter O-Ring and they have blue or red markings on them??

PS... sorry for the lameness with the lack of pictures. I lost my phone Xmas Eve and the one I've got now is ****e.

EDIT: Pic of block after respray.....
