got a 106 quicksilver thats had a problem since brought..
basically it will struggle to idle, somtimes cut and , and generally not drive all that smooth.. Theres no missfire, and when taking the car to mot the fueling emissions were jumping about all over the place..
would i be right in saying that a faulty map sensor would cause the sysmtoms, or likewise would a leaking inlet manifold gasket or similar also cause this
anybody maybe offer some guideance ?

hmm, not thought about the tdc sensor, would that affect the fueling that much. I thought about having it plugged in, however usually i diagnose the problem with out the use of the laptop and charges associated.
Lambda probe dead? this happened on the wifes old 106gti.
already tried lamba but to no succeeed :(
map sensor/air leaks/ air temp(cant remember what measuring system is used on the 106, pretty sure it hasnt got a maf sensor but if it has these are very common), easy way to find air leaks is to spray some brake cleaner around the inlet manifold and ajoining hoses. any leak and brake cleaner will be sucked in and start to run smoother.
Also check the fuel pressure reg reference pipe.

The idle control valve on them are a basŁard mine was always playin up they stick ... This might help
well.. i took it to a garage/friend.. and he scanned it.. ecu temp sensor is reading way off the scale , aswell as the o2/lamba..
He said one may be affecting the other so we opted first for the cheap option of replacing the ecu temp, however the problem still persists.. he now wants to scan it again first to see if the ecu temp sensor is reading correctly.. next action will be a fresh lamba sensor.. if that fails hes thinking the ecu may be at fault :(

Most Likely lambda sensor, you'll want a half decent one as some cheap sensors won't las a minute!
Check engine/ECU earths too. and check that it has a thermostat in it, and the rad gets hot, overcooling will cause engine to run crap in this weather.
mines does this when its cold but not bothered fixing it because as soon as i drive it down the road it warms up and goes away but i was told to use carb cleaner in the idle speed control valve, may be an idea ?
Allways a good idea to clean the throttle body/idle control valves now and again, throttle blade being dirty can cause funny map sensor readings at idle.
well this is somthing its done across 2 engines.. its had in it.. inlet etc.. didnt change only the main block, its heating up perfectly fine , and the problems been there for a year and a half now, cleaned everything to death, and its a persistant problem , whether engines hot or cold, and whether the climate is hot or cold..
The fueling readings are litrally right up... right down, right up right down.. it just dosent seem to be able to maintain its fueling.
Have you had the fault codes read?
yup, as said its showing that the ecu temp readings are all over the shot, so changed that but need to rescan to see if its rectified , also he said the o2 sensor isnt responding quickly so thats the next thing to swap..
however he wants to check that the ecu temp is now reading with a fresh sensor, as if not it could be ecu at fault.
You might want to check the wiring loom hasn't gone green....costs nothing to check.
My Saxo was loom was fooked.
i did actually mention the wiring loom being at fault, but he said it was unlikely as it would read .. somthing circuit, he did explain but it was snowing and i was frozze...
any idea which parts of the loom to check , i presume just plugs mostly
Check places like just as the wire comes out of the connectors, and the connector pins themselves, some of the pins of my loom had snapped off in the plugs....
