old member- looking for help in glasgow..
First post!
Hi folks. I used to frequent this forum many moons ago when my phase 2 gtt was on the road. Unfortunately the 5 has been neglected and has sat in a garage for the last 3 years. Ive been starting it occasionally just to keep it turning.
I was planning on getting it back on the road but unfortunately i am leaving the country to start a buisness. Im needing to move the 5 on but dont really want to split it as ive not got time to do that. I tried starting it the other day but it wasnt willing- changed plugs, leads- filled with fuel and has a new battery, but it wouldnt start..my mechanical knowledge has left the building!
Im wondering if there's any members on here that could offer some help..obviously i would be willing to pay anyone that could help me out?? ;)

Welcome back to the club shame you are having to move the 5 on, but life gives us other opportunities which are more important good luck with the new venture.
Ref the 5, you getting fuel to carb (remove fuel pipe to carb and place in old cola bottle and crank and see if it comes out if does we have eliminated lack of fuel to carb, next thing is check spark, (put fuel pipe back on lol) remove the king lead and put a spare spark plug in the king lead and rest it against a metal part of the engine and crank and see if fires if so you have spark to dizzy then do the same for each ht lead. Saying all this is the engine cranking on the starter motor?
Also any pic's of the 5, colour, condition and value in it's present condition?
Could be tempted but only concern for me is distance

Re: old member- looking for help in glasgow..
Check drivers side of the carb and make sure accelerator pump has not seized, you should see the flap move towards you of standing at drivers front wheel and opening throttle manually with your hand. This was stuck on mine and now it fires up. ;)

Checked the fuel flap at car and it's OK. Going to check if it's getting a spark and then fuel. Which pipe is the feed pipe going into the carb?
Re: old member- looking for help in glasgow..
IIRC, it's on the drivers side of the carb and goes into the side of the carb top, above the float chamber.

Not sure exactly which one was the problem. New plugs, ht leads and some new fuel.. and it fired.. 😊
