Classic Car Weekly, needed by today, thursday.

Earlier today I received an enquiry from the above newspaper.

They have written a 5GTT buyers guide and wondered if we could help.

I can't do this as I haven't owned a GTT in 3yrs. Come on guys, someone must be keen to give a short spiel and a photo?

Ian, didn't the club produce a fantastic buyers guide for a magazine a few years ago? Was it written by Sparkie?

If there's nothing forthcoming from an individual member today, is there anything that can be lifted from the old article that the magazine might be able to use?

This is the second Renault 5 GT Turbo I have owned which I purchased in 2003 having had one back in the 90’s when I was a younger man. The cars were hugely popular in the 1990’s but that popularity tarnished the image of the cars thanks to the Ali-G, (crazy body-kits and big wheels) brigade and unreliability (from poor tuning to gain more power from the car). This image is something myself and other members of the RTOC are working hard to change now and can see that the car is now gaining more credibility. I fully restored my car in 2006 and regularly use it in the summer months for a weekend blast and in 2012 went on a European road tour with some friends covering some 2600 miles in one week and the car performed faultlessly! Many people comment to me when I’m driving it now how they used to own one back in the 1980/90’s and they had happy memories of it. I would recommend the car to anyone and suggest that you buy one of these fast appreciating classics now; before you miss out!

Don't forget to add your advice to anyone reading that joining the club to get all the support you need is essential! :D

Also, I would take the exclamation mark off at the end of 'faultlessly'. It makes it look like the fact the car drove faultlessly was a surprise :laugh:

I think we shound try to sell the experience of whats it actually like owning the cars, rather than what we've been upto and your opinion of how the car is viewed. If we were to win the readers over with the relationship you develop with the car's it might be cool.

My opinion is that whoever writes it should say something about the turbo lag, the smell of the car (might just be mine a bit petrolly in the cab haha), the sound etc. Stuff people can relate too (I love how my car smells like my dad's old VW workshop). People would probably be more interested in the 5's if we try and sell the experience of what its actually like owning one.

We all know about the jap styled body kitted cars with flip paint but let's maybe not bring it up haha. :)

It is a cool pic.

For me though I think I'd prefer a pic of you Steve with your GTT. The cup/track pic with no-one in it doesn't really give the impression of either the personal touch (i.e. the person), or reflect what most members situation/relationship with their car is (a road-going GTT).

You made the effort with the text though so it should be your choice IMO :)

It's a cool pic but looks like we all have race cars.

Let's say close of business in most offices is 17:30 and since the thread title says the mag needs the article 'today', I'd assume Ian will need something to send to them within the last hour of the working day. So say he needs to sends it at 16:30.

To give Ian a chance to sort it out before sending, I'd say it would need to be posted up on this thread with a pic by 16:00. That's an hour and 37 minutes from when I'm writing this...

Yes it's getting close! He didn't specify a time. I'll get some stuff off now. Can send more later if there is more.

I did send in the buyers guide yesterday so he could cross check for accuracy what he had written and 'copied' from magazines.

Tbh, I think considering Steve has a photo that would good in a mag it would be cool we put that forward...

I'm awful at writing anything up, but I was trying to capture the enjoyment of owning a 5 and being in a club of 5 owners in these paragraphs...
