my mid engined rwd cossied 5 updated 24/2/10
ive never done a thread in here before and cant really be arsed to go through it all again.
i might copy and paste some details from another site.
here it is as it sits now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t/IMG_0479.jpg
the engines back out,
just for some cleaning, painting, rewiring.
i cant afford the stuff i wanted to do to it, due to some jobs cancelling on me in these ****ty times.
i need a new waterpump as this ones packed up,
gunna get a std exhaust cam for it,
and some general tidying up.
so nothing exciting really.
not exactly much room to work,

-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
this looks like a amazing bit of kit, always wanted a yellow 5 let alone one with a cosworth engine in the back !!, fooking sick well done mate
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
:cool: top job:agree::agree::agree:
just out of interest how does it handle around corners, any large amounts of under/oversteer??? arse end happy??
my rear engined beast should be done in a few more months:laugh:
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
it handles just fine m8,
ive not had it on track yet, but its done plenty of spirited road driving and i havent found the limits yet.
i would expect to this summer tho. lol
there is still a fair bit of weight in the front of mine, especially with all the fluids in there.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
how much would it cost for a yb in a 5, basic set up.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
its one of those
if you have to ask you cant afford it
questions. lmao
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
wow and wow again what a machine , u done yourself??
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
Stu that car is awesome mate, 400hp/tonne i bet, got to be awesome round the b roads, have you blitzed any supercars?
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
y not strat a company offering conversion , ,like z cars for minis ,;)
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
i plan on doing a few more crazy conversions in the near future, but not to the same spec as this. its just toooooo expensive.
it is very fun taking it out.
theres a few of us round here with powerful cars that just go out to play, but never some up against a proper supercar, there is a porsche 911 turbo and a lambo gallardo around here i wanna meet on the road.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
thats a race i think we would all like to see!!! have u run 1/4 mile yet???
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
:) i would love to see the look on that persons face in the porsche when you leave him for dead
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
IS it coming to ND @ the pod, or even ND at mallory?
Would love to see it on track, or even have a passenger ride round ??
Looks like top work, old beemer looks nice too!
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
i hope to be at loads of shows/meets this year.
yea passenger rides will be available to those brave/stupid engough to get in with me. lol
not done a 1/4 in it yet, hope to this year tho.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
defo think theres a business opportunity there
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
:eek::eek: F**k me:eek:.........what a ride:agree::agree::agree:
Amazes me what can be done....................especially when i struggle with the humble C1J:scratch::wasntme:
Hope to see it in the flesh.........
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
i dont think that car has flesh, bones or blood. . just pure muscle , :agree::wasntme:
back 5 years ago or so a rear engined five with a five engine was enough but some of you out there are on another level , who needs a new car when you can have cult car looks and super car performance. .im so jealous i can pretty much build you a house but cant find find my way round an engine bay!!!!
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
i started the build 5 years ago. lol
its been on the road for 3.
and i can build a house to. lol that might even be my next project.
build a triple garage/workshop in my back garden to play in.
then start on the next car
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
good man!! stick to car builds though . .y not do a clio williams with five engine in rear??? would it upset handling???
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
i dont think im gunna do another mid engined build,
next 1s gunna be front engine rwd.
prob wont be a small car either, i prefer a bigger car.
wont be for at least a year tho, i wanna get this 1 a bit further along before starting another.
plus wanna sell 1 or 2 others 1st.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
good luck then im off to bed , i kp look out for any of ya posts get some rear vies vis of 911's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
amazing build!
out of interest what does it drive like compared to std. does it handle and drive ok with a light front. looks very well set up.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
as its mid engined not rear, the weight distribution is very good
and as theres a lot of weight at the front with the big rads full of water and petrol tank there, it holds the front down quite well.
i have been told tho, that when i launch hard it does lift the front wheels off the ground. lol but ive never seen that.
it does feel like its got power steering to.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
if the weather ever picks up bring it to the ace. would be nice to see it in the flesh.
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
i plan to.
will probably tax and mot it at the start of april once the weathers better.
then i want to take it everywhere. lol

Point taken, but you still didnt answer my question stu. We have all spent loads of money on all our 5's over the years ,and thats me doing the work too! If i was to add up what i spent on my 5,s, it would cost more or less the same as putting a cossie engine in the back in the first place.:coffee:
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
Stu you should bring it up one weds when its fixed your always welcome... i havent seen you since i gave you that gear box :)

more or less what you've spent on your own 5 :smokin:
-
Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
a million pounds then, anyone so lucky to be able to do work on there own cars to such a high standard is highly comendable, i can do basics but the things you guys can do must save a fortune in garage labour costs. :)

Pmsl
in the 5 yrs I've had it I've spent around £30k in parts, lots of that is mates rates to, no labour as I've done 99% myself.
I know a company that does builds like this, he recons around £15k in labour to copy it. If you supply the car and the parts.

Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5

Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_0496.jpg
how it sits now.
just before the start of show seaon and the fun that comes with it and ive stripped it to the bones. lol
gearbox is out to be stripped, inspected, cleaned and repainted.
rear suspension is off for a cleanup
drive shafts need cv joints repacking and cleaning then paint
ive also done some more welding and paneling to the engine covers to seal it better, and done a load of cleaning/painting already.
hopefully i will get it back together soon, its booked to go on a stand at the rsoc central day in the middle of april so i better get a move on.
