bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration (SOLD 08/07/2014)
as some of you might of seen via facebookmy car went in before xmas to begin what we thought would just be both sills plus a bit of floor pan, well it turned out to be much much worse than that and was if anything a driving death trap
i wont upload all the pics individually as there is alot so heres a link to the photobucket album
http://s428.photobucket.com/albums/q...20restoration/
its not far off now just a tad of welding left to do then its ready for paint etc

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration
:eek:wow your not wrong about it being worse:cry:
Fair play though for cracking on despite that, a lot would give up and sell on (myself included I reakon:(:D)
Once your back driving it,it'll all be worth it:agree:
:goodJob:
Good to see you back on the boards too:agree::agree::agree:
-
Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration
Christ that is a lot of rust to have to deal with I've seen sounder ones scrapped. So fair play to you and the effort :agree:
-
Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration
Well done for seeing it threw mate alot of 5's have been scrapped for less looks good what they have done who did the work
-
Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration
Very impressed :agree: as mentioned above, most would of backed away from that. So well done for the great effort.
I'll keep an eye on this one :)
-
Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration
thanks for all the positive feedback fellas, i think everyone who has seen it has said the same things, it would of been easy to either reshell it or break it for parts but wheres the fun in that ;)
my good mate george at gt motorsport is doing all the work for me he has restored many cars down the years and i think it shows, im getting it done at mates rates but still an expensive job.
i would of uploaded the pics individually but i didnt want it taking over the live board and thought it might be easier for you to flick through the album and id notify you via the thread when more pics are added

Re: bluntys r5 gt turbo restoration

Been down there today as well and had a look at your car andy while you weren't there! Looking good pal, I cant believe how bad it was especially the view of the rear tyres through the boot!
You've done everything very well, the welding is excellent and I suppose its like a new chassis again.
Once its painted it will definatley be like a new car. Well done :agree:

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps385c0dc8.jpg
i also then painted the handbrake lever and the pedals as they were a bit tired, got some new rubber pedal covers on order from mike to go on.
We were going to re fit the carpet and start putting some of the interior back in but i took the carpet home to wet vac it and my god was it filthy done it twice it was that bad.
Ash (redoctober) also has his car up at gt motorsport having alot of engine work/nodiz install etc being done and he took a random pic of the 2 motors together, both cars have attracted alot of attention according to the guys who run the garage as they are such a rare sight nowadays.
