Mine are looking a bit ****e to be honest, does anyone know if you can still get new ones for reasonable money?

Tell me about it, purchased these and the rear bump strip and people spraying my car decided to loose them so had to purchase again :crap: got a set of these side skirt rubbers as spare as know they will just keep going up silly in price and they are not easy to re-use

Re: Side skirt rubber seals
Think i might look for an alternative then lol
-
Re: Side skirt rubber seals
Count yourselves lucky you can still get the parts. The cars went out of production over 20 years ago :cartman:

Re: Side skirt rubber seals
I thought I saw some on GTTurboSpares (but cannot get on right now!), about £38 if I remember rightly but looking at Bigfoots comment, this must be for one side.
Someone mentioned using some silicone stuff, instead of the rubber... I guess this would stick and be waterproof too. Patients is required if using this method and something to hold the side skirt on after applying the silicone (to get a seal)
I just got a set of side skirt clips (as my side shirts are falling off) and was going to try the silicone option! Will feedback if this works but will not be for some weeks yet :(

Re: Side skirt rubber seals
The gap in mine is huge.... maybe my sideskirts aren't fitted properly
I'll have a closer look when I get the car back
-
Re: Side skirt rubber seals
The bodywork has the clips on (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-...item5ad530aab2), the side slirt have these hooks (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-...item5ad52f3579) which go in to the clips on the bodywork.
Some d!ckhead thought it would be funny to rip out the rubber seals on both sides of my car. Skirts are now falling off as the above clips have rotted away. Also, the bottom of the side skirts are riveted, if you use a rivet gun to put them back on, you will probably crack the side skirt...
-
Re: Side skirt rubber seals
They are all present on mine as a couple fell off so I had to refit them, but there still seems to be a bit gap.
Maybe the clips need bending back into shape or something. I'll take the sideskirts off and have a proper look when I get chance. Car is at a workshop at the minute having some new crank bearings and thrust washers fitted

How do you remove the side skirt is there a method so as not to break anything?

Remove the arch from the front wing, make sure all bolts or pop rivets are removed along the bottom, pull slightly away from the bottom so clears rear arch and lift up, might need to give it a little tap to remove easier
-
Re: Side skirt rubber seals
Does the arch just unclip from the front wing or is it bolted, also is this something I'd find in a Haynes manual

Its bolted. If I remember correctly put your hand behind the plastic arch protector in the wheel well and you will find the bolts :agree:

Think they are 10mm nuts holding it on. You will need to remove the wheel arch cover from inside to get to the nuts.
-
Re: Side skirt rubber seals
4 10mm nuts, and the 2 top 8mm ones ;)
just read the full thread, how much for the skirt seals!! £11 a side only a few years ago!

isn't there a 8mm one near the bottom of the arch as well?
If only people knew what the prices were back then for what they are now :crap:

2nd hand set though, unless there is a new set, would rather pay out for £60 more than that and get new as these will be cracked and will be hard to stick back down due to age

Re: Side skirt rubber seals
Warm them up with a hot air gun, use decent twin stick tape, and take yr time fitting them, there not hard to do, new or second hand.:)

yer but if there old and been baking in sun for years and gone all out of shape and hard then no amount of heat or bond will make them look half decent, really need new. Im sure you could get it ok with 2nd hand though
